The Real India by ♥

His name is Rajkumar Pal, a 83 year old retired headmaster from Nadia,West Bengal. He has been cleaning the Jugol Kishor Setu with his bare hand every single day for past 23 years.

In Rajkumar Pal's word “This Bridge was a necessity”. Before the bridge students often missed school because they were unable to cross the river. He wrote to local & state authorities for a bridge. He even wrote to then Chief Minister Jyoti Basu. But they all rejected his appeals for fund problems. But he didn't give up and wrote to Then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. His relentless effort moved Indira Gandhi and she alloted 2.33 crore for the bridge.

So he has a special bond with this bridge. He arrives here after taking bath and in fresh attire. Then he cleans the bridge, road, and railings everyday and spends four hours in keeping it neat and clean. It is his daily routine for past 23 years without any exceptions.

But why does he do it with bare hands and clean dress? Answer is he is a religious man. This bridge is named after Jugol Kishor which is another name of Lord Krishna and there is a Krishna temple near the bridge. He feels His presence in this bridge. That's why he doesn't use broom and use his hands and clean dress during the regular cleaning.

Sometimes it seems that their relationship is developed into a father-son relationship. A caring father who is taking care of his son.

Probably It only happens in India
